In this article, we’ll look at how to make a simple dashboard in PowerBI with several types of visualizations. First, we’ll look at what a dashboard in PowerBI is.

Power BI Dashboard

A Power BI dashboard is a single page, often called a canvas, that uses visualizations to tell a story. Because it is limited to one page, a well-designed dashboard contains only the most important elements of that story.

Tiles are the visuals that appear on the dashboard. These tiles come from reports and are pinned to the dashboard. The dashboard’s visuals are derived from reports, and each report is based on a single data source. In fact, one way to think of a dashboard is as an entry point into the reports and data sets behind it. When you click on a visualization, you’ll be sent to the report (and data set) that was used to build it.

Dashboards are a wonderful way to monitor your business, look for answers, and to see your most important metrics at a glance. A dashboard’s visualizations can derive from one or more underlying data sets, as well as one or more underlying reports.

Let’s begin with creating a simple dashboard using a Telecom Churn Dataset. You can easily download that dataset by clicking here.

  • Load the dataset

Simply click the ‘Get data’ button to load your data into PowerBI. That was already mentioned in the previous blog. In the image below, you can see that I have loaded the CSV file into PoweBI.

Load the Data

When you load your dataset you can see the data table and columns of that data table in the ‘Fields’ tab just like the below image.

  • Add some visuals

After successfully adding your dataset go to your dataset and add some visuals. Choose the visuals you wish to include in your dashboard, then the data on which the visuals will be applied.

After that, you may add some styling to the visuals, as shown below.

After that, you can arrange the various visual tiles according to your preferences. Here is a simple dashboard that I created based on the data provided.
